Bauerngarten
Plants as ready-mades, 2024
Bauerngarten (farmer’s garden) is a type of garden discussed in garden history literature. It combines colourful decorative plants with edible ones and was considered a result of urban park influences on 19th century villages. More recent literature suspects it to be an urban idealization of rural life, while also proposing it as a way forward for contemporary park design.
The installation uses a combination of decorative and edible plants, presenting them on white stands as sculptures. It was part of the exhibition Unruly Splendour at the Gallery in Körnerpark in Berlin, housed in the park’s former orangery.
